I spent three nights in Ullapool while waiting for the ferry across to Stornoway, on Lewis, Outer Hebrides.
I tried to book a room at the Caledonian Hotel, as a friend of mine had stayed there while cycling around the Highlands a month earlier. Unfortunately there were no rooms available. It was OK though as I found a small B&B around the corner and was very happy there for three nights.
I was overcoming a sore throat that had confined me to my tent in Oban for two days and nights, so three days simply taking it very easy and chilling in Ullapool was just what I needed.
The older lady owner of the B&B was great but every morning when I went down for my cooked breakfast she seemed to do a little skip, and have a surprise on her face: "Oh, who are you.... that's right you're my guest aren't you." She was great though, she even did my laundry for me and hung it out on the line.
