Tino had ridden 1000km from Auckland to Wellington on a sub $200 bike from The Warehouse.
The rear derailleur was no longer working, so had to make do with his triple chain ring on the front, i.e. he had three gears instead of about 15 or 20 to choose from.
He tied his tent to his front handlebars and carried most of he gear on his back - the most uncomfortable way of doing so on a bicycle.
I did a similar trip back in March this year, and although I often complain my bike rides like a tank, it rides like a bomb proof, well oiled, super reliable tank, albeit as slow as an old tank*
Tino was going to find somewhere to camp this evening but It was windy today. I would have invited him to stay at my house for a couple of nights, but I am 30kms north of the central city, so it wasn't really an option.
Tino's effort way surpasses what I did. Kudus to Tino.
* I didn't do too bad a ride on the ''tank'' myself today, up to the Brooklyn Turbine, Korokoro/Maungaraki Hills, and up Blue Mountains Road to finish: sportypal.com/Workouts/Details/4113797
